Be Like a Dandelion.
This weekend, I attended a series of talks by meditation teacher Rebecca Bradshaw. She began her lesson with a haiku by Nancy Winkler.
With its deep taproot
the dandelion stays calm
as its head explodes.
Meditation - spending time with ourselves in stillness and in quiet, connecting to our anchor, our breath - is what helps us grow our own deep taproot. When we are strongly rooted, we may be blown around by our thoughts and fears and worries and wants, but we will bend, not break. We can trust ourselves to be able to return to our rootedness, and our truth.
My head feels like it’s exploding each time I read the news these days, and I suspect I’m not alone. The news isn’t going to go away, so let’s use our meditation to help us be like the dandelion.
